VT Database Server
Centralized Asset Management and Security with the VT Database Server
Component Architecture
The core components of a NewsFlow system are the VT
SQL Database Service, (VTDB) running either on a
single Apella server or on a standalone server, and
the stored media assets located either on one or
more Apella servers or on a central NAS or SAN system.
All ingest/playout servers, high resolution editors,
and low resolution editors must access these two
components at some point in order to operate properly.
Dedicated SQL Database Server
The VT Database Server (VTDB) is a 3RU box with single
Intel® Xeon® CPUs dedicated to acting as the
central SQL server for all Apella and NewsFlow clients.
This server is recommended when there are two or more
Apella servers on a network. This secures the VTDB
database on an independent server for high availability
of content. The option for the VTDB Failover Cluster
pairs up two VTDB servers and ensures security if one
server fails. Automatic failover protection provides
a high level of control and protection for HD or SD
production. System Backup and Disaster Recovery
Apella and NewsFlow provide several backup/recovery
schemes and fail-over redundancy mechanisms that
can be implemented for the particular needs of any
given size facility. All of these tools and procedures
are capable of protecting and restoring System assets
to varying degrees in accordance with different budgets.
VTDB Redundancy with Automatic Failover Clustering
Full redundancy of a VTDB SQL Database is provided
using dual VTDB servers in a cluster for automatic
fail-over protection. In the case of critical failure
of the Primary VTDB server, the redundant VTDB server
becomes the Primary VTDB server. This option includes
a second VTDB server and direct attached shared SCSI
storage for database and other common files. The
cluster is visible as a single entity to all NewsFlow
and Apella application clients. In case of a server
failure, the other server in the cluster immediately
detects the failure using a dedicated Ethernet connection
for heartbeat monitoring and takes over automatically.
The SQL server database files will be on the shared
DAS RAID and immediately available to both VTDB Servers
in the cluster. The VTDB Automatic Redundancy
Server solution is sold and supported as an integrated product
and includes all hardware and software components.
